About

We are an organization of artists who want to further the tradition of plein air painting among artists and the community.   Our group includes both new and exerienced artists of all mediums and provides a venue for artists to meet, paint, interact, encourage and learn from one another.

This will be done by having "paint-outs", events where artists get together to paint in the medium of their choice.  These will be held at various areas around the Savannah, Hilton Head, Bluffton, Charleston and Beaufort area.  We will also incorporate trips to areas out of the low country such as the mountains or northern Florida.  We welcome any suggestions for future painting sites, which in the past have included public parks, private homes and beautiful town/city scapes.  Suggestions might include, museums, zoos, farms etc.   For inclement weather we would like to find inside locations such as an art museum or other venue.  This is done by other plein air organizations and the members bring drop cloths and whatever other supplies they need to prevent any mishaps in the location.

To further the education of artists, new, emerging and experienced, we plan to hold workshops.  We had a three day workshop in spring of 2009 by Richard Coyne.  The one-on-one experience was invaluable.

An annual competition will be held for plein air artists.  The next competition will be held in October 2010 and will be several days of painting culminating in the judging, display and sale of work.  This will be open to all artists.  It is our hope to use some of the proceeds from the sale of the artwork to support the arts in the low country.
