Plein Air Equipment
I am always on the lookout for plein air equipment which enables me to travel lighter but doesn't compromise my ability to capture the landscape I am painting. I am currently using a Versa EasyL easel. Last spring I bought a Beauport Easel for larger works, although I feel that if I got caught in a strong wind I might be blown to Oz. Does anyone have any suggestions for other equipment they have used and cannot live without? |
| I have enjoyed the Open Box with a very sturdy tripod. It is light and has never blown over. |
| I cannot live without umbrellas. I have three: one from Artwork Essentials that is the best, two from Guerilla Painters - portable clip on and one that goes into the ground. I like the one that goes into the ground when I can park my car near to where I am painting.I did get a very lightweight easel from Artwork Essentials that was part of a kit and they sold it to me separately. I think it is a Kevin Macpherson pochade box. I love how light it is and took it with me to Italy last June for the plein air painting workshop that I taught.I also have two small Open Box M easels that I like as well for their craftsmanship and portability. To keep things from blowing away I use a sturdy tripod (Artwork Essentials) and a stone bag. |
| The nicest addition to my portable stuff is a collapsible milk crate on wheels which folds up to the size of a laptop and carries all that I need. I got tired of carrying a full french easel and made my own pochade box which screws onto a camera tripod. If you know someone who is handy with a table saw, it's easy to make a box to suit your own requirements. |
